Physical Health Monitoring in Anxiety Treatment
-
- STATUS
- None
Summary
Anxiety disorders (AD) are related to poor physical health (PH), but few research studies and treatment centers investigate the effect of cognitive behavior therapies (CBT), which are highly effective at reducing AD symptoms, on improving PH in patients with AD. Cognitive variables, like distress tolerance, are implicated in the maintenance of anxiety, but are understudied in relation to PH in AD. Emerging research suggests that incorporating technology like those afforded by the Way to Health (WTH) platform improve clinical assessment. However, we have not yet assessed the acceptability of WTH to assess PH and key cognitive/physiological variables in patients seeking AD treatment. The purpose of this study is to assess the acceptability of the WTH patient portal in patients seeking AD treatment. The WTH portal will include data from the following: PH indices from the Withings health monitor and nursing assessments, responses to electronic momentary assessment (eMA) text messaging prompts, self-report and clinician-interview AD symptom ratings, and cognitive/psychophysiological assessments. Specific aims include: 1. To implement and assess the acceptability (primary outcome) of WTH patient portals compared to AAU in the comprehensive assessment of physical, psychological and cognitive variables. 2: To examine whether incorporating eMA text message prompts are acceptable for clinicians and patients with AD (secondary outcome). 3: , We will examine the relationship between CBT, AD symptoms, PH indices, and cognitive outcomes.
