Summary
The purpose of this study is to determine whether progesterone is helpful in reducing withdrawal symptoms, cigarette cravings, and smoking behavior. This study will also use brain imaging to measure the possible effects of progesterone on your brain chemicals. Healthy male and non-pregnant female smokers are invited to screen for study participation.
Description
Smokers between the ages of 18-50 who smoke at least 10 cigarettes per day will be asked to undergo a screening visit where they will be asked to complete questionnaires about their mental health and complete lab assessments. All qualified participants will be asked to participate in two 5-day long out-patient test phases where they will undergo 3 brain-imaging scans, blood draws, and remain abstinent from smoking. Participants will be compensated for study participation.

You may qualify if you are: -Between the ages of 18-50; Right-handed; Not on medication for depression, anxiety, pain or sleep disorders; medically healthy. Please contact the study team directly for more information and to determine eligibility.
